Music Workshops
In 2026, Kengugró will be trialling regular music workshops every second Thursday evening at our practice hall in Kingsgrove.
The workshops will be facilitated by our visiting dance teacher from Transylvania (KCSP program) Norbert Rencz (Norbi) and supported by rotating members of The Transylvaniacs: Mark Richards, Sally Corry, Antal Stopic and Jozsi Kanti.
The purpose of these workshops is to introduce practicing musicians to Hungarian music with the future goal of playing along at parties, sessions, táncház and Kengugró dance rehearsals (held on Wednesdays).
Violin, viola, cello, double bass and accordion players are all welcome!
For cimbalom (hammered dulcimer) opportunities, scroll to the bottom of this page.
Please note, our teachers will not be teaching you how to play your instrument, just style, tunes and cultural anecdotes.
Double bass is probably the exception to the rule. Someone with a good knowledge of music and accomplished on another instrument could probably learn the playing technique quite quickly. There is a spare bass to borrow.
Each night, depending on who is around, you will get a chance to learn a tune or two and then jam with others, slowly but surely building your confidence and immersion into this exquisite music.
The cost of these sessions will be $15 per evening. Norbi will keep a tally of attendance and we will send you a bill at the end of each term.
